I’m very pleased to announce that my GAME OF THRONES ‘Bran Stark’ illustration will be released tomorrow by MONDO as a limited edition screen print. The huge 24” x 36” piece is printed in three colours on 100lb French Speckletone Paper, has an edition of 365 and costs $45.   Keep your eyes on the MONDO site and twitter feed as they’ll announce it’s release at a random time tomorrow!

i haven’t seen all the submissions yet, but its seems like “young boy being ravished by demons” was a popular subject.

See-through brains (by NatureVideoChannel)

Scientists have come up with a way to make whole brains transparent, so they can be labelled with molecular markers and imaged using a light microscope. The technique, called CLARITY, enabled its creators to produce the detailed 3D visualisations you see in this video. It works in mouse brains and human brains; here the team use it to look into the brain of a 7-year-old boy who had autism.

Artist Fabian Oefner captures these colorful portraits of fluid instability by dripping acrylic paints onto a metal rod, which is connected to a drill. When the drill is switched on, paint is flung away from the rod, creating these snapshots of centripetal force and surface tension. Note how droplets gather at the ends of the spiral arms like in a Plateau-Rayleigh or a rimming instability. Before a cell divides, it must carefully check that all of its systems are normal and operational before initiating division. Cancers are often riddled with mistakes in this machinery, allowing a cell to divide uncontrollably without first ensuring everything is “good to go.” In this Ashbya gossypii fungus, the CLN3 protein (orange, with nuclei in blue) helps initiate the commitment to cell division given that the cell correctly passes its initial checkpoint.
